چکیده

Materials and methods Naive p. from 5 clinics in Lubumbashi (Congo-DRC) were randomized to receive LPV/r versus NVP combined with TDF/FTC or ZDV/3TC. VL and CD4 were performed at baseline (BL) and every 24 weeks (W). The primary endpoint was the % of p. with therapeutic failure defined as clinical and virologic failures (VL>1000 c/ml)(missing data=failure), assessed at W48 and 96. We present here the results of 144 W of follow-up.

Impact of second-line antiretroviral regimens on lipid profiles in an African setting: the DART trial sub-study

BACKGROUND Increasing numbers of HIV-infected patients in sub-Saharan Africa are exposed to antiretroviral therapy (ART), but there are few data on lipid changes on first-line ART, and even fewer on second-line. METHODS DART was a randomized trial comparing monitoring strategies in Ugandan/Zimbabwean adults initiating first-line ART and switching to second-line at clinical/immunological failu...

First-line antiretroviral therapy with nevirapine versus lopinavir-ritonavir based regimens in a resource-limited setting

OBJECTIVE To compare WHO first-line antiretroviral therapy (ART) with nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTI)-based regimen with a boosted protease inhibitor (bPI) regimen in a resource-limited setting regarding treatment outcome and emergence of drug resistance mutations (DRMs). METHODS Treatment-naive adults were randomized to nevirapine (NVP) or ritonavir-boosted lopinavir (...

Pilot, Randomized Study Assessing Safety, Tolerability and Efficacy of Simplified LPV/r Maintenance Therapy in HIV Patients on the 1st PI-Based Regimen

OBJECTIVES To compare the efficacy and safety of an individualized treatment-simplification strategy consisting of switching from a highly-active anti-retroviral treatment (HAART) with a ritonavir-boosted protease inhibitor (PI/r) and 2 nucleoside reverse-transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) to lopinavir/ritonavir (LPV/r) monotherapy, with intensification by 2 NRTIs if necessary, to that of continu...

Nevirapine- Versus Lopinavir/Ritonavir-Based Initial Therapy for HIV-1 Infection among Women in Africa: A Randomized Trial

BACKGROUND Nevirapine (NVP) is widely used in antiretroviral treatment (ART) of HIV-1 globally. The primary objective of the AA5208/OCTANE trial was to compare the efficacy of NVP-based versus lopinavir/ritonavir (LPV/r)-based initial ART. METHODS AND FINDINGS In seven African countries (Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe), 500 antiretroviral-naïve HIV-infecte...

Choice of antiretroviral drugs for postexposure prophylaxis for children: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND This systematic review aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of antiretroviral options for postexposure prophylaxis (PEP). Recognizing the limited data on the safety and efficacy of antiretroviral drugs for PEP in children, this review was extended to include consideration of data on the use of antiretroviral drugs for treatment of infants and children living with human immunodefic...
